If I were going to summarize by comparison, I would say that Hunger Pangs is similar to the Parasol Protectorate. Excellent fantasy filled with witty and engaging characters and a mix of anachronistic magitech...but that doesn't do the story justice.Hunger Pangs is a slow burn romance drawing three (although only two for the majority of this first book) very different people together into what will eventually be a stable, healthy, kinky triad.It is a sterling example of social commentary, both overt and passive, without making it the focus of the story. It is proof by example that anyone who complains that explicitly showing caring, safe, responsible discussion of boundaries, consent and safety can't be sexy isn't trying hard enough.It is a story that will lead you through a Northland reel, whirling you around until you glimpse hints of a turtle shell pattern on the dancefloor and the dizzy haze makes the walls shimmer like Rimfall past the legs of titanic elephants. Not a lifted mask but a shared family resemblance, if you will, to a world soaring through the cosmos on the back of great A'tuin.TL;DR - Ultimately if anything I said above sounds like you might like it, you'll almost certainly love the book.
